-- "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities." (Dictionary.com)
-- "Those who face fire without fear or armor. Those who step into the darkness without assurances of ever walking out again, because they know there are others waiting in the dark, Awaiting salvation." (UrbanDictionary.com)
Today I watched a video that changed my definition of a hero -- the type of person I should strive to become. What is courage? Do I have it? Really? How often is my courage put to the test? After watching the video (at the bottom of the post), I'd say never.
In November, Wade and I went to India. We met some amazing Christian brothers and sisters there. I heard about how hard it was for them to be a Christian. I saw many who were too scared to know Christ -- they feared their FAMILY. The cost was too much. Some of my brothers in India are living in persecution as we speak. I recieved a few emails this week from India that opened my eyes. And then I saw this video. God is speaking.
The first email I recieved was from one of my translators named Akash; he informed me that his wife had left him for a man of Hindu background. In light of all that, he said, "I believe in God and I cannot leave God even in my difficult situation. Now , I have dedicated my life for his glory what he wants me to do for his glory."
The second email was forwarded to me. It was from the pastor we worked with in India. For the last few months he has been on my heart because of the persecution he is under. I posted about a month ago how the rebels had taken over a village in Nepal where he ministered. They took over the church and the school. This is what he had to say.
"There was a time they want to lock the building, we said if you lock also we will worship on the road. People will pray to Jesus anywhere. Building is not important people are important that what I said."
"I said I am ready to die I am not afraid Because I have surrendered my life for this reason. They were thinking that If they threaten me then they will stop Christian activities.
Glory to God for His wonderful love.
In the book of John, some of Christ's followers thought his teachings were too hard, and they decided to leave him.
"At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God."
These men in India have every reason to leave. To keep their wives.. to keep their lives. But they stand firm and say, "Lord, to whom would we go?"
I was challenged today to think about my life. Oh that my life were so entwined with Christ that I would say "Lord, where would I go?" I want my life to be one that follows so hard after Christ that if asked to leave it, I would have no where else to go. But really, no one would ever ask me to do that. Our brothers and sisters in India are told if they denounce Christ, they will live. And they say, "No. To whom else would I go??"
I encourage you to watch this video. But I must warn you that it is a little graphic. Francis Chan make some excellent points about who we hold up as heros.
We sang this song at church tonight and I kept thinking about the men in the video. They really mean this...
"I will praise you in the pain, when I can't see past today. When its hard to lift my hands to praise you, I will trust you."

Well, I did it! I decided I wanted to learn to bake a cake, so I downloaded tons of yummy sounding recipes and today I attempted my first one! Its a Red Velvet Cake (from scratch) with Cream Cheese Icing (from scratch) with milk chocolate chips on top. It looks delicious to me, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm taking it to my ladies community group tonight, so they get to test it out. My only concern is that the icing was pretty thin - kinda loose. I need to work on making it have a thicker texture I think. Here is a picture of my proud creation! Hopefully there will be many more to post in the future (unless I start gaining too much weight from eating them!)
